New figures show a record 16.8 million tourists visited Hong Kong in the first six months, despite those tour guide shopping scandals.
It's the highest half-year figure ever recorded, representing a 23 percent increase compared to the previous year. Two thirds of the visitors were from the Chinese mainland. 2.6 million people arrived in June, an all-time high as well, indicating a 43.5 percent jump compared to a year ago.
To further communication and ties, Hong Kong Tourism Board chairman James Tien Pei-chun met with officials and representatives from the mainland's travel industry on Tuesday in Beijing.
