As China looks to increase housing for low-income earners, Singapore has given some suggestions based on its experience.
Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development said Singapore began building public housing 50 years ago, also known as HDB flats. There's now nearly 1 million HDB flats, and they're strictly available for low-income earners. In 2009, each HDB flat cost between 100 thousand and 330 thousand Singapore dollars, while the average income for Singapore residents is around 3600 dollars a month. The Singaporean Government is now mapping out new policies, allowing retirees to cash in their HDB flats.
