The number of passengers flying between Xiamen in Fujian province to Taiwan, increased more than five fold during the first seven months of the year, reaching nearly 200 thousand. Taiwan is expected to overtake Hong Kong next year to become the most popular flight destination outbound from Xiamen.

Figures also show passengers flying between Xiamen and Taiwan now account for nearly one fifth of Xiamen's inbound and outbound travellers.

Analysts say this is largely due to the increasingly warming cross-strait ties. Xiamen currently has 27 Taiwan bounded flights every week. And the passenger occupancy rate is relatively high, at over 90 percent.
