Bangkok hosts trade fair to promote SMEs

08-16-2010 11:22 BJT

Bangkok has hosted a trade fair to promote the country's small and medium-sized enterprises. The event is part of the Thai government's economic stimulus plan in the wake of the global financial crisis.

The three-day event saw over 250 small and medium companies from across the country showcase their products. Bangkok marks the 20th time the event has been held. Thailand's Industry Minister says the previous 19 fairs generated trading equivalent to around 9.4 million U.S. dollars.

He also says small and medium sized businesses are in urgent need of quality improvement, comprehensive market planning and access to finance. They account for 99.7 percent of the total number of Thai companies, and contribute over 47 billion U.S. dollars in export revenue.
