Meiji Dairies Corporation will recall around 230 thousand cheese products in Japan, due to possible contamination by pieces of metal.
Meiji Dairies says the metallic pieces, about one centimeter long by one millimeter wide, were mixed into ingredients imported from Germany. The contaminated cheese is sold all over Japan, and affects eight kinds of products. The company says there have been no reports of illness so far.
Meiji Dairies has been embroiled in a number of recall scandals since it entered the Chinese dairy market in 2007. Two years ago, it was reported the iron and zinc content in Meiji milk powder surpassed the national standard.
