Bank of Thailand Governor says the Thai baht is stronger compared to other currencies in the region. The remarks come after the currency appreciated by about 5 percent.
The bank's Governor says this won't affect the country's economy, and that Thai exports are still growing and foreign investment is flowing into the stock and the bond markets. She believes baht appreciation presents opportunities for importing capital goods and machinery. She says the country's central bank will take action only when necessary.
On the economic outlook, she stressed the Thai economy should continue to grow in the second half of this year. But the world economy may have a slight recession as expected, because many countries are reducing stimulus measures.
