Mobile operators are making huge efforts to promote third generation telecom technology, or 3G. Many hail it as the future of the industry. But it seems consumers' attitudes towards 3G aren't so positive, despite the overwhelming promotional campaigns.
3G technology is a hot topic in modern life. Operators are promoting this advanced technology in various ways.
But it seems customers feel 3G hasn't met their expectations. One of the major reasons is that 3G services are quite expensive. Often, the price of a 3G phone is even higher than the cost of a laptop computer.
What motivates many customers to buy 3G phones, is being able to watch movies and surf on the internet. But they need to pay a lot if they want to use several 3G functions.
And there are some customers who think 3G services aren't actually very convenient.
One consumer said "The signal is poor and unstable. Many places aren't covered by the signal. You can't watch videos or log onto the internet all the time."
Another factor hindering customers from choosing 3G mobile phones is lack of available 3G services.
Operators expected the number of China Mobile 3G users will increase to 50 million by the end of this year. But at the end June, 3G users in China had only amounted to more than 25 million, far below expectations.
Li Shanyou, Chairman of KU6.com said "The total proportion of 3G mobile phones users is too low "
Companies offering 3G services feel the return of this industry is too little. Even their enthusiasm for developing 3G services is starting to wan.
