Thai Chamber of Commerce warded off concerns on the effects of a devalued Vietnamese Dong on Thailand. But it admits the appreciation of the Thai baht may affect small business.
The chamber chairman says the devaluation of the dong at two percent was the level widely expected, and further devaluation is likely to follow. He says baht appreciation will definitely affect exports, but private businesses will have to rely on risk management. He's also cautioning the negative impact on small businesses in particular.
His comments come as some observers expressed concerns, of weakening competitiveness of Thai goods while the baht has been stronger.
