China's tourism administrator says it may soon allow foreign tour companies to operate in the country. And it won't just be for domestic services, but also international tours. CCTV Reporter Zhang Ting gets the response from industry insiders.
Song Xiaojun, China Manager of JV HRG Jinjiang China said "Opening up tourism is the last area left undone since China joined the WTO."
Wu Hao said "I might choose a foreign tour agency to travel abroad. They know their local culture better, and can provide more fun trips."
Jiang Weihao, Deputy GM of Spring International said "Foreign tour agencies will certainly attract some of our younger and better-off customers...but having some competition will make the market a healthier one."
While both Chinese tourists and travel agencies say they welcome the prospect of foreign tour companies entering the market, foreign companies say they still need to know more before taking any actions.
