The yen exchange rate against the renminbi has risen by about 8 percent, and hit a record high since 2005. It's becoming more expensive for Chinese citizens to travel or study in Japan.
The constant appreciation of the yen has pushed up airfares and holiday packages to Japan. Some fares have seen an increase of 30 percent. With the yen rise, Japanese cosmetics and electronics, which used favorites among Chinese tourists, now appear less attractive.
Chinese students planning to study in Japan are also feeling the pinch. They're likely to spend 10 thousand yuan more, for one year's tuition fee.
