60 projects begins construction to mark 30th anniversary of Shenzhen SEZ

In Shenzhen 60 projects worth more than 100 billion yuan have begun construction, to mark its 30th anniversary as a special economic zone. Officials say the the projects will go a long way to upgrading the city.

A Shenzhen city government official announced the start of the 60 major projects in five fields.

The city mayor and other leading officials laid the ground for the "Costal Metropolitan Complex" project. The location was visited 30 years ago by former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who was led China's opening up reform.

The total project investment is worth 105 billion yuan. In addition, other projects worth 220 billion yuan will begin by year end.

Those projects are to upgrade urban and industrial development.

Wang Rong, Shenzhen Party Secretary said "We hope the construction will greatly improve city development and make the special economic zone fulfill its role. We also hope to improve residents' living standards."

Participants from various fields expressed their enthusiasm about the new projects.

Fu Yuning, Board Chairman of China Merchants Tech said "Our company is an active participant in Shenzhen's 30 years' of opening up and reform. It will continue actively participating in the coming years."

Yang Zheng, Dean of Chemistry & Biology College, Peking University said "The future of Shenzhen will not only be a processing chain. It will be a world leading city in knowledge and technology creation."

Officials also say the city government plans to improve project administration, encourage financing channels and set up a sound system for future major projects.
