Gas project benefits local economies

The Sichuan-East natural gas project, a major projects to develop China's western region, has played a role in boosting the local economy.

Dazhou, the natural gas source area, used to be poor countryside. Now a chemical industry park has been established, accommodating modern chemical companies. The local GDP grew by 40 percent and tax revenue rose by 20 percent annually, in the past three years while the pipeline was constructed.

The project also drove infrastructure construction and utility projects along the line, with a total investment of 46 billion yuan. It's also helped generate billions of yuan in production for related industries.
