China says not so fast the country may launch an anti-monopoly probe into BHP Billiton's bid for Canada's Potash Corp last month. It's an indication that China, as the world's biggest importer of fertilizer, is weary of further concentration in the market.
BHP has said the deal only needs approval from regulators in Canada and the United States that's where Potash Corp sells about half its production. China purchases approximately 7 percent Potash's output, a number that has risen rapidly in recent years.
It is still unclear what steps, if any, Chinese regulators can take in opposition to the bid.
