The State Council issued an announcement to strengthen vegetable production and guarantee market supply. The move aims to stabilize vegetable prices in Chinese cities.
The announcement says cities with populations over 1 million should take concrete steps to increase vegetable farming in suburb areas. Local governments should increase vegetable markets to meet the needs of residents.
They are also required to establish vegetable reserves, which could supply 5 to 7 days of emergency consumption. Methods should be worked out to protect low-income residents if vegetable prices increases.
