Figures from the Ministry of Commerce show China bucked international trends in both outbound and inward investment.
China is now the fifth largest global investor in terms of outbound direct investment. It has invested a total of 56.5 billion dollars overseas, making up over five percent of the global total. Ministry officials predict that foreign direct investment is set to surpass 100 billion dollars this year.
The strong growth reflects the nation's rising economic prowess. But while more Chinese companies were investing overseas, barriers to foreign investment inside the country rose.
