Forex data from the People's Bank of China, shows capital flowing into the country rose sharply in August, to the highest monthly total since April.

The central bank and Chinese financial institutions spent 243 billion yuan absorbing foreign exchange flowing into China in August. The figure increased from 198 billion yuan in July. The "Position for Forex Purchases" is a key measure reflecting capital inflows into China, and was less than 286 billion yuan in April.

China has seen steady capital inflow in recent years, as speculators bet on the country's jumping asset prices in property and shares, as well as expected appreciation of the yuan against the dollar.
