Hong Kong's airport authority is planning to build a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport. The runway is planned to be located around one kilometer away from the current northern runway.

A technical feasibility study has already been completed. As the project will involve reclaiming land, public consultations will be launched to seek general consensus before construction.

Hong Kong International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. An average of 880 flights pass through the airport every day. The figure is expected to keep rising and hit over 1,300 by the year 2015.
