China's seven-day National Day Holiday begins on Friday. Ahead of that, hotels in Shanghai are booking up fast and sending accommodation prices up too.

This modest hotel, located two kilometers from the World Expo Park, is receiving an increasing number of bookings from abroad.

And with the national day holiday approaching, the vacancy rate is getting lower.

One tourist said "It is really hard to book a room nearby. We visited many hotels yesterday but no rooms were available."

The vacancy rate at this chain hotel is around twenty percent. The manager says rooms are in short supply for the seven-day holiday. But prices won't be raised. For groups greater than two, the hotel will provide more facilities.

Zhang Jing, Marketing Manager of Hanting Inns & Hotels said "For families travelling with kids, we will add beds to make them more comfortable."

Vacancy rates at non-luxury hotels in Shanghai are only about 20 percent for the first three days of the Holiday.

Luxury hotels has about 30 or 40 percent of rooms still available.

The average price of a lower-end hotel is around 400 yuan, three-star is 500, and four star 800.

Generally speaking, the price is up slightly on September.

Travel experts suggest tourists arrive later in the holiday, or stay in hotels further from the Expo Park.
