NDRC: China mulling to levy environmental tax

The government is considering an environmental tax to raise the public awareness of climate change. That's according to the deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Xie Zhenhua, Deputy Director of National Dev't & Refrom Commission said "Our related departments are actively working on levying an environmental tax. But in the terms of a carbon tax, we're still working on it. It's possible that the taxation system will be introduced during the 12th Five Year Plan. The market and economic regulatory measures will be used to lower the carbon emissions. The steps will speed up in the future."
