Review: PBOC's tightening measures this year

11-25-2010 13:55 BJT

Let's take a look at some of the measures taken by China's central bank this year to tighten liquidity in the market.

The People's Bank of China raised the benchmark interest rate on October 19th, for the first time since 2008. It's also raised financial institutions' renminbi-deposit reserve ratio by 50 basis points five times this year. The central bank also hiked the country's six commercial banks' required reserve ratio on October 11th.

Now, the required reserve ratio is 18 percent, the highest level since the monetary policy tool was introduced. But analysts say there's still the possibility the central bank may tighten liquidity again this year.
