Sino-US JCCT meetings review

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan will arrive in Washington for the 21st meeting of the China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade. Let's take a quick look back at some of the results achieved over the last 17 years at these meetings.

1983 The first JCCT meeting is held.

The meeting has become an important platform for China and US to negotiate on trade and investment issues.

2003 The JCCT meeting become higher profile. China's Vice Premier chairs the Chinese delegation, and the US Secretary of Commerce chairs the US delegation.

Dozens of working groups under the meeting discuss issues such as trade, investment, intellectual property right protection, agriculture, industrial development and IT.

2004-2007 Three sessions of the JCCT meeting are held. The Chinese delegation is led by then-Vice Premier Wu Yi.

2008 Dozens of ministerial level officials from China participate in the meeting, chaired by China's Vice Premier Wang Qishan and then-US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez.

2009 The 20th session of the JCCT meeting is held in Hangzhou, China. It is the first session participated by Obama's administration. China and the US undertake talks on a wide range of issues including the recognition of China's market economy status.
