The PMI figure for China's "manufacturing" sector wasn't as strong. It dropped to 53.9 in December, down 1.3 points from November. But still, it marks the 22nd straight month the index has been above the boom-or-bust line of 50.

Before dropping in December, the index had risen for four consecutive months. Experts say the December PMI data doesn't indicate China's economic growth has slowed. That's because returns on value-added industrial activity, exports and investment grew significantly in November. They say the decline was mainly caused by a decrease in new domestic orders.

Cai Jin, Deputy Chairman of China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing said "The drop in the figures shows the government's tightening measures to rein in inflation have worked. And we can also see domestic consumption will become the nation's main driving force in 2011."
