European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has opened a plant in northeast China's Harbin city. It's the first of its kind in the country, and will be Airbus' largest production base outside of Europe.

It's also the first time that China has been involved in production of the world's most advanced aircraft. China will provide 5 percent of the components of the A350 XWB, more specifically elevators, some doors and the underside of the aircraft.

Construction of the plant began in June 2009, and will begin production immediately. The fist delivery is expected in the middle of next year.
