Income distribution is a focal point at this year's NPC and CPPCC sessions. And many welcome the government's recent decision to raise the threshold for income tax. But they say more needs to be done.

Huang Dafang, CPPCC member said "The current threshold for personal income tax is 2,000 yuan a month, I think we should raise it to 4,000 yuan."

Ou Chengzhong, CPPCC member said "Now 2,000 yuan a month is nothing in big cities. It's necessary to raise the threshold to 3,000 yuan a month."

Shen Zhongyang, CPPCC member said "From my personal feeling, the minimum threshold for personal income tax should be raised to 4000 to 5000 yuan a month."

Wang Yufeng, CPPCC member said "We should adopt differentiated thresholds for personal income tax. It should be decided according to the economic development and people's income level in different regions, and should not be a one-off standard."

Shen Zhongyang, CPPCC member said "China's tax income always outpaced the growth of GDP per capita, and growth of people's income. Raising the threshold can boost domestic spending, and drive employment, and ultimately, make people wealthier."

Wang Yufeng said "We should enlarge the difference of income tax categories. Those who earned more should pay more tax, while those who earned less should reduce their tax burden. This will help narrow the gap between rich and poor."

Ou Chengzhong said "A fair income distribution system cannot be achieved by adjusting personal income tax alone. More policies are needed. For example, reducing tax for small enterprises so as to encourage private business startups, and drive employment. "
