With Japan's earthquake now putting "downward" pressure on the yen, what does that mean for the Chinese RMB? Our reporter Zou Yun spoke with Tan Yaling - Director of the China Forex Investment Research Institution.

Tan Yaling, Director of China Forex Investment Research Inst. said "Actually the relevancy between the yen and the RMB is smaller than that of the US dollar and RMB. In the market, the linkage between the US dollar and the RMB is always more important, and the correlation between the yen and the RMB is mainly based on industries, and market distribution in Asia. After the earthquake, the depreciation of the yen put more pressure on the yuan to appreciate, but the main factor that influences the fluctuations of the yuan is still the US dollar. From another perspective, the value of the RMB is also determined by our policy, and global expectations."
