The high speed train is posing a challenge to the civil aviation industry. Not only because of it's speed advantage, but also because of its safety benefits, and easy connection with other transport.

The launch of high speed train services have forced air operators to cancel several air routes. So in response, airliners are offering large discounts which recently forced two rail services to come to a halt. But experts say operators of air and rail transport are not really competitors, and there should be cooperation and coordination between them.

Experts also say the government should coordinate rail and air operators, to avoid vicious competition and waste of investment and resources.
