Apart from the property market, tourism is also being boosted by the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Rail. The new rail service is also likely to increase the popularity of individual travellers to cities along the rail line.

As the launch of the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Rail approaches, enthusiasm for trips to cities located along the line is building up.

Tourists can book a train ticket online, and gain some travel tips.

A Nanjing resident said, "I prefer travelling on my own, rather than in a tour group. It's more convenient."

"I prefer independent travel to package tours. And I can choose to travel in low seasons."

But travel agencies are not so enthused by high-speed rail tours.

Apart from the property market, tourism is also being boosted by the Beijing-Shanghai
High Speed Rail.

The first and foremost reason is cost. Industry insiders say the price for a return flight from Nanjing to Beijing is about 2,000 yuan.

It's one thousand yuan lower for a one-way flight, but the cost of taking the high-speed rail could be half of that. But airfares could become cheaper after the opening of the rail service.

Pan Zhenpeng, vice GM of Travel Agency in Nanjing, said, "Flights within 1,000 kilometers will be affected. Airlines are likely to offer more discounts."

Apart from the property market, tourism is also being boosted by the Beijing-Shanghai
High Speed Rail.

Industry insiders say another factor is that as the trains run during the day, the amount of time available for sight-seeing will be impacted.
