So far, another bumper season for China's grain. Data shows that the nation's summer grain output totaled more than 126 million tons in the first half of this year, up 2.5 percent over the same period in 2010.

This is the highest on record and tops off 8 straight years of good summer grain harvest. Winter wheat contributed most to the output increase - rising more than two million tons on a yearly basis.

Grain output is key to stabilizing product prices and managing inflationary expectations. But with autumn grain harvest ahead, agricultural authorities say it will be essential to increasing total grain production.

Ye Zhenqin, director from the Department of Plantation MGMT, Ministry of Agriculture said, "Autumn grain plays the most important part. It contributes 70 percent of China's total grain output. We have entered a critical stage, with floods, pests and frost all presenting potential challenges. So no effort should be spared to enhance farm management."
