Spain tourism booms for low costs amid economic woes

Despite Europe's economic woes, the number of tourists flocking to Spain's sun-soaked island of Mallorca are increasing rapidly. Gao Ying tells us how they're being lured by heavily discounted travel deals.

The island of Mallorca continues to be one of the favorites for holiday makers.

Apart from the sunshine and sandy beaches, one of the reasons that it continues to attract droves of tourists is its relatively low prices.

With the UK pound weak against the euro, more British tourists are looking for cheap deals and low prices to get more out of their holiday spending money.

Christin, an English tourist said, "It is good for the tourists to have low cost, so it is good for the tourist."

That's good news for cost conscious holiday makers, but the discounted deals mean that even though there are extra numbers, this hasn't translated into huge profits for tour operators.

Machael Jordt, a bar owner said, "Low cost or all inclusive are both not good for Mallorca, which is what is being provoked mainly by low cost."

The island of Mallorca continues to be one of the favorites for holiday makers.

One and a half million tourists visited Mallorca and the other Balearic islands this June, making them Spain's top holiday destination.

It was an increase of more than 12 percent from the same time last year.
