China's reliance on crude oil imports increased slightly in the first half of 2011, but the overall level remains lower than the U.S in the same period. That's according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

According to the NDRC, crude oil reliance hit nearly 55 percent in the first half, 1 percentage point higher than the same time in 2010, and compared to 61 percent in the U.S. In the first seven months, China processed a total of about 240 million tons of crude oil, of which nearly 147 million tons were imported.

Meanwhile, China posted a 3.2 percent increase in crude oil output to just under 120 million tons during the seven months. In July alone, imports on crude oil increased 1.8 percent year-on-year.
