China's State Administration of Taxation (SAT) has clarified that a widely-circulated document concerning revisions to the country's individual income tax law was forged.

According to the fake document, the SAT released the new reforms after the central government adopted an amendment to the individual income tax law. It says the SAT would use a new mathematical formula for tax calculations. The document specified how taxpayers would be subject to the old and new tax rates during different times of the financial year.

But the SAT says this is untrue, and seriously misleading for taxpayers. The administration did not give any explanation for the forgery, but says those responsible will be held accountable under the law.
