Services cut, tickets hard to get for Beijing-Shanghai bullet train

08-17-2011 10:18 BJT

The bullet train between Beijing and Shanghai is also taking a new operation plan. The biggest change lies in its reduction in the number of services from 88 departures to 66. Both travel time and ticket prices remain the same. As services decreased by a quarter, tickets have become harder to get, especially for the economy class tickets.

Ticket agencies in Shanghai have put out notices to inform passengers of the cancellation of some Jinghu services originally scheduled to depart Tuesday and Wednesday.

Due to adjustments, 17 trains have been cancelled Tuesday. Another train will stop running tomorrow.

As a result, people started queuing for tickets, in case they are sold out.

Chen Chunming, a passenger said, "The number of passengers is still the same, but there are less trains. There is a ticket shortage, so we had to book three or four days in advance."

As students travel back to school as we near the end of the summer holiday, the peak time for train travel has arrived.

Due to a reduction in services, less seats remain empty.

People are also ditching the habit of buying tickets on the day they travel and are booking in advance.

Economy class tickets for trains leaving Tuesday and Wednesday have been sold out.

A staff member of Ticket Agency said, "Economy class tickets leaving from G34 for the 10:30am departure were sold out. And people leaving from G32 tomorrow are also sold out."

According to Shanghai Hong Qiao station, the earliest departures from Shanghai have been adjusted to 7:10am from 7am.

The last arrival has been changed from 11:27 pm to 11:01pm. That provides people the opportunity to catch the last subway.
