South Korea is reporting robust employment data for August. But economists are playing down the figures as fast growing signs of a global slowdown that may cloud the outlook of Asia's fourth-largest economy.

Statistics Korea says unemployment on a seasonally adjusted basis fell to 3.1 percent in August from 3.3 percent in July. That is the lowest level since July 2008. The number of people who found work climbed by 490-thousand in August year-on-year, the biggest rise since May 2010.

Economists say the country's unemployment rate is typically slow to reflect changes in overall economic conditions, and the latest data will not have a big impact on investors now more worried about the global economy.
