Indian pre-budget meeting

Indian Finance Minister is beginning pre-budget consultations with key stakeholders. Pranab Mukherjee is looking to receive feedback on various policies, to be incorporated into the budget for the coming financial year.

Over the next three weeks, a series of meetings will be held with leaders of industry, experts and trade union leaders. The meetings are aimed at assimilating suggestions and presenting a balanced, representative budget.

Mukerjee will also hold discussions with heads of banks and other financial institutions. Issues including recapitalization for lenders, access to affordable financial services and interest rate movements will be on the agenda. The Finance Minister will also work with some of India’s most renowned economists next week, to finalize policies for future growth and development.

Economic growth in India dipped to 6.9 percent in the second quarter - the lowest in nine quarters.
