A new year, and a new investment channel for RMB holders in Hong Kong. A subsidiary of Haitong Securities has launched two RMB-denominated financial products in Hong Kong. It's the first batch of such products, since China launched the Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor - or RQFII - scheme.

Under the scheme, institutional investors can raise RMB in Hong Kong, and invest it in the mainland securities market. There are some guidelines, however - China's central bank is requiring a minimum of 80 percent capital to be invested in bonds. And a maximum of 20 percent can be invested in stocks and related funds.

Analysts say, this means more liquidity for the A-share market. Hong Kong authorities say they've approved 15 such financial products, valued at around 15 billion yuan, or about 2.4 trillion U.S. dollars.
