A Chinese think tank predicts the nation's economy to expand by 8 and a half percent in the first quarter of this year. That’s slower than the 8.9 percent seen in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the China State Information Center attributes it to a deteriorating export environment and the government’s property cooling policies.

The think tank forecasts that inflation will come off that higher figure we saw today, rising just 3.5 percent overall in Q1 -- also due to slowing demand both at home and in international markets.

It says the moderating economic growth is reasonable and no cause for alarm - as there’s room for macroeconomic policies to be adjusted accordingly.

Meanwhile, the centre suggests to increase supply of low-end houses in the market and provide reasonable financial support to benefit low-income earners.
