People's Bank of China said it is pushing interest rate reform, but in a steady fashion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the annual parliament meeting, PBOC Deputy Governor Hu Xiaolian said interest rate reforms have been proceeding in an orderly manner and that the central bank will continue to push forward reforms during China’s 12th five-year plan ending 2015.

Meanwhile, she said certain conditions must be considered to ensure a fair environment after interest rates are freed up -- for example, rules and regulations must be in place to protect depositors.
