Another Chinese national has won top position at the International Monetary Fund. Lin Jianhai was officially made Secretary of the Fund on Thursday, following Zhu Min’s placement as deputy managing director last year.

Educated in both China and the U.S., Lin has worked at the IMF since 1989. When IMF Chief Christine Lagarde announced her intention to name Lin for the position earlier this month, she cited his wide-ranging career at the fund in both in country and policy work. She also highlighted his skills in coordinating different groups, which she believes is essential during one of the most challenging periods in the IMF’s history.

Lin will hold the key post of the department that is responsible for the operations of the IMF executive board and serves as a main contact point for the institution's 187 members.
