To India, where consumer price inflation slowed slightly in June. However, concerns rose about the lack of monsoon rains compared to previous seasons, which pushed food prices higher.

The data on Wednesday showed that CPI eased slightly to 10.02 percent in June from 10.36 percent in May. But food costs accelerated to 10.71 percent in the consumer basket in June, from 10.66 percent in May.

Despite the slight moderation in overall prices last month, Central Bank Governor Duvvuri Subbarao said this week inflation in India remains way above comfort levels. He also called for a new producer price index that would gauge inflation more accurately.

The current benchmark inflation indicator, the wholesale price index, does not capture the price movement of services and is a hybrid of consumer and producer prices.
