The whole row on the US and South Korean poly-silicon dumpings are taking a toll on Chinese producers. In the face of a fresh low of dumping prices by foreign brands, Chinese silicon firms are being forced to drag down the prices of their products even further, and are seeing their profits plummeting.

The Chinese poly-silicon industry has seen better days than these. Now, major industry players find themselves losing market share to cheaper foreign products. But to Chinese companies, these imported poly-silicon products are so cheap that they call them dumpings.

Lv Jingbiao, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Zhongneng Silicon Technology said, "Only 20 US dollars a kilogram. The normal price level should be higher than 30 dollars a kilo, as the cost of those foreign production lines is around 30 dollars a kilogram."

This company cannot afford to lower the price of their products any further.Lv Jingbiao said, "The profit dropped to no more than nothing, if it continues to dip, we can’t survive."

That’s why four major players in the industry in China are suing dumping activities from the US and South Korea. So far, only one of them has escaped from the shock and is still producing silicon products, the other three manufacturers were forced to shut down. For smaller firms, their immunity from the dumpings is even weaker.

Zhao Jiasheng, chairman of Silicon Ind.,China Nonferrous Metals Industry Assoc. said, "By the end of last year, 80 percent of the poly-silicon producers closed their lines. Over a million people lost their jobs. And the total losses hit 50 billion Yuan. "

Mr. Zhao is warning Chinese producers, the dispute has not yet come to an end.

Zhao Jiasheng said, "Several solar panel firms from the US and Germany went bankrupt recently. Losing big buyers, foreign poly-silicon producers may increase their dumpings to China."

Just two weeks ago, the first poly-silicon producer in China, Sichuan Emei Mountain company shut down their manufacturing lines. The roaring factory has almost come to a standstill.
