China's US treasuries holdings hit record

07-17-2013 16:35 BJT Special Report: China's Economic Data |

US treasuries are still the top option for China’s investments. China’s holdings of U.S. Treasuries rose to a record in May.

China added 2% to its holdings-- which now stands at $1.316 trillion. May is the fourth month for China to increase its stockpile. China is still the US’s biggest creditor, according to data from the US Treasury Department.

Meanwhile Japan, the second-largest foreign holder, was selling -- the country trimmed its US treasuries holdings to $1.11 trillion in May. Analysts say China may continue to buy US treasuries as a reliable investment -- thanks to the recovery in the US economy.
