The Ministry of Commerce said at a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing NPC and CPPCC meetings that China is confident of achieving its 2014 trade goal.

"The international economy maintains the trend of reviving in 2014, especially the economic recovery that starts in developed countries, pumping up the needs gradually. It is helpful to China's exports. Seeing from domestic competitive factors, we think two of them are favourable. One is Chinese enterprise's endogenous adjustment and the change of the endogenous driving force for their development in the international financial crisis. The other one is the innovation of system and mechanism. Therefore, after analysing the entire global market in 2014, we are confident of realizing the 7.5 percent increase target in foreign trade in 2014," Gao Hucheng, Minister of Ministry of Commerce, said.

Minister Gao Hucheng also says that China has become the largest goods trader in the world, but not yet the strongest. The encouraging aspect is that in facing this fact, Chinese firms are shoring up efforts to improve their competitiveness, adjusting business models, and creating more value in their day to day business activities.
