Premier Wen congratulates Cameron

Incoming British Prime Minister David Cameron and his deputy, Nick Clegg, are hailing their new coalition government as a new era. Premier Wen Jiabao has congratulated Cameron on becoming Britain's new prime minister during a telephone conversation.

Wen said the China-Britain partnership has increasingly embodied more strategic significance and global vision. He expected to establish a good working relationship with Cameron and enhance political trust and cooperation. Cameron thanked the Chinese Premier for his congratulations, saying China is an important strategic partner and Britain values the relationship highly. He said the British government under his leadership would pursue close ties and cooperation with China. On Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said the country's leaders hoped that the new coalition cabinet would elevate bi-lateral ties to the next level.

Foreign MInistry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, "Strengthening cooperation between the U.K. and China is not only beneficial for the people of both nations but it also moves towards peace, stability and prosperity in the world. We are willing to work together with the U.K. to deepen frequent cooperation in various areas and push for a stable and healthy development of the bi-lateral strategic partnership."
