A Shanghai court on Monday upheld the convictions and sentences of three former employees of Australian Mining company Rio Tinto. The Higher People's Court of Shanghai rejected the appeals by Wang Yong, Ge Minqiang and Liu Caikui.
The court found that from 2003 to 2009, the three men used improper means to acquire commercial secrets from Chinese steel companies. The information they obtained was used to boost the prices China paid for iron ore. The court found more than 20 Chinese steelmakers had paid an additional billion yuan for iron ore imports last year.
