In the neighbouring Guangdong province the lashing rain also caused flood.

A fish pond in suburban Guangzhou to see what left by the heavy rainstorms.

The pond is located half way up Huo Lu Mountain in the city's Tianhe District. It belongs to the Guangdong Longyandong Tree Farm. The pond is used for irrigationg seedlings and fish farming. Guangzhou was hit by a pair of heavy stroms over the past several days, with tons of water rushing from the mountain flooding the pond.

CCTV correspondent Xie Rui said, "In order to release the water pressure in the pond, local authorities have decided to dig a channel that can funnel some of the water away from the area."

The pond was filled to capacity with around 10,000-cubic-meters of water. After discharging much of this, only 2,000-3,000-cubic meters were left, leaving a 20-meters of room from the edge.

Huang Wanhe, dep. director of Longyandong Tree Farm, said,"The flood release has had an impact on the Guangzhou-Shantou high way, but it was not very serious, as the drainage system is well-equipped. However, in a surrounding nursery, some young plants were washed away, as most of them did not exceed 30 centimeters, But hopefully we will still have some plants left after we clean up the mess."

The release of flood water from the pond only temporarily submerged a small number of factory buildings in the tree farming area. No one was injured. In order to secure the effects of the initial channels, an additional set was dug bringing the total water storage of the pond down to 1,000-cubic-meters.
