Local people in Southern China are busy making disaster relief efforts as flash floods after landslides caused by continuous rainstorms destroy not only their homes and crops but are also threatening people's lives.

Heavy rainfall Tuesday morning caused mountain floods in Jinxiu County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. More than 2,000 people in the village of Tonghua had to be relocated.

Eleven workers in a timber factory were trapped.

Station troops formed an emergency rescue team and came to the rescue in boats. But the speedy currents made the rescue work very slow.

They need to find more help.

Huang Zhenjiang, local official, Guangxi, said, " We had to contact the maritime bureaus at the provincial level, and an ocean search team from Zhanjiang was dispatched. "

With the help of helicopters, all 11 trapped workers were rescued 10 hours later.

A similar rescue effort in Shanghang County in Fujian Province rescued 14 people including three women and a baby who were trapped on an island.

Firefighters formed a life line secured by safety ropes.

Xin Huilong Town in Guangdong has experienced its heaviest-ever rainfall. The only main road leading to the town has been destroyed by flood water.

18 hundred people have been moved to safety. Children and elderly people were evacuated to schools and local government buildings.

Relocated resident of Xinling town, said, "The local government is providing food and living quarters for us. We are being taken good care of."

Local officials say, the people may have to stay here for another three months. Even after the floods retreat, they fear more geological accidents may occur.
