Heavy rain has been falling in Tongcheng city, Anhui province, for several days.Dykes have failed in two villages in the region, forcing a massive evacuation.

As flood waters poured into the villages, soldiers rushed to relocate local residents. Most of the victims have been trapped in the village for several days without any connection with the outside world.

The roads have been destroyed by the flood, and the rescue trucks can hardly get through.

As rain keeps falling the flood waters continue to rise making the situation even more serious. In some areas, the flooding is so bad that most of the roads and bridges have been damaged. Villagers are stuck in their tiny yards.

Several rescue teams are trying to evacuate those villagers still trapped.

Ferries are being used to transport the victims to safety but space on the boats is limited, so only 3 to 4 villagers can be moved at a time.

Women and children go first.

About 140,000 people have been affected by the flooding.
