The aircraft carrier USS George Washington is to arrive in the ROK on Wednesday to prepare for the upcoming military drill between the two navies.

The aircraft carrier is capable of carrying 6 thousand crew members and dozens of aircraft. The fleet, including the aircraft carrier and three destroyers, is due to anchor at Busan Habor.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Qin Gang has dismissed a speculated joint military drill between the navies of China and the DPRK as cold-war mentality. He says China firmly opposes any activities endangering its security in the Yellow Sea and other sea waters. China hopes relevant parties can refrain from actions which may intensify tensions in the region.

Qin Gang said, “It's an idea which sees Northeast Asia and the Asia Pacific regions as different military allies. This cold war mentality can not safeguard stability and security. What we need are joint efforts from countries in the regions to initiate dialogue and enhance mutual trust.”
