Intensive training conducted for PLA submarine captains

07-21-2010 09:33 BJT

Submarines are formidable defenses against enemy vessels. The PLA navy is conducting live-ammunition drills with a focus on training skilled submarine commanders. The navy will use this training to maximize the effectiveness of the military hardware.

In the drill, two newly promoted submarine commanders order their prototypes to break through anti-sub perimeters, arrive at their destination and launch a strike. All missiles reach their targets.

Wang Yuezhong, Commissar, Navy's Submarine Forece, said, "It's not easy to form combat capabilities. A good captain should make the best use of the weapon given to him."

To do that, the navy uses a variety of means to train submarine commanders. The programs focus on the application of information technologies in modern warfare.

Yang Wenming, Captain, Navy's Prototype Submarine, said, "It requires a tremendous amount of training to become a combatant onboard a submarine. Learning is compulsory, or you won't keep up."

Thanks to the training programs, a new generation of submarine commanders has emerged. They use many new innovative tactics in joint military operations with other branches of the armed forces.
