Meanwhile, The Executive Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Zhu Yanfeng, says the recovery of several thousand barrels of chemicals is going smoothly, after they were swept into the Songhua River.
Out of a total of 7,138 barrels, more than 6,000 have so far been recovered. Rescue workers have located another 684 among the flood debris. They are searching for the remaining 67 barrels. None of the containers is reported to have been found outside of the Province. The local environmental protection bureau says the water quality of the Songhua River remains normal.
